Passports

The Clallam County Auditor's Office acts as an acceptance agent for the U.S. Department of State. We process applications for new passports only. This includes renewals for minors aged 15 and under, applicants whose previous passports were issued before they turned 16, and applicants whose previous passports are more than 5 years expired.

We accept applications on a walk-in basis only, Monday - Friday, 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM. For more information, call our office at 360-417-2220 or visit Travel.State.Gov.

Renewals

If your passport is current or expired within the last 5 years, and it was issued after you turned 16, you must use the DS-82 and apply online or by mail.

Items to Bring – New Applications

  • An application (DS-11), filled out in black ink only, unsigned
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship
    • Certified copy of U.S. birth certificate, previously issued U.S. passport, Certificate of Naturalization, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or adoption decree with Permanent Resident Card (or foreign passport with I-551 stamp)
  • Photo ID
    • Valid driver’s license, U.S. Military ID, or valid foreign passport
    • State-issued ID cards are acceptable with supplemental documents:
      • Work or school ID cards, expired driver’s license, Social Security card, voter registration card, Medicare or other health card
  • 2x2 color photo taken within the last 6 months
  • All applicants, including children, must appear in person
    • Applications for children aged 15 and under must be signed by every parent listed on the birth certificate
    • Applications for children aged 16-17 should be signed by one parent listed on the birth certificate
    • Applicants may submit a notarized Statement of Consent in lieu of one or both parents’ signatures
  • Separate payments for the application fee and the acceptance fee
    • Application fee must be check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State
    • Acceptance fee is $35 per application 
      • It can be paid with cash, money order payable to the Clallam County Auditor, or debit/credit card (nominal fee)
      • We do not accept personal checks for the acceptance fee

Processing Times

Current routine and expedited processing times

Processing does not include mailing time. It can take up to 2 weeks for the State Department to receive your application in the mail and up to 2 weeks after it’s issued for you to receive it in the mail. Plan your travel accordingly.

Expedited processing is $60 per application. This becomes part of the application fee.

To have the State Department mail your passport to you via 1-2 day delivery, you can pay an additional $22.05. This becomes part of the application fee.

For urgent travel, contact the National Passport Information Center (1-877-487-2778) to make an in-person appointment with the Seattle Passport Agency. You must be traveling within 14 days, be able to provide proof of travel, and pay for expedited processing.
