Budget Adoption Procedures

Procedures for Adopting the Original Budget

The county's budget procedures are mandated per Clallam County Charter Chapter 5.16 as mandated by CCC Article IX and RCW 36.40. The steps in the budget process are as follows:

  1. Prior to the first Tuesday in September the county administrator submits a proposed budget to the county commissioners. This budget is based on priorities established by the commissioners and estimates provided by county departments during the preceding months, and balanced with revenue estimates made by the county auditor.
  2. The commissioners conduct public hearings on the proposed budget in September and December.
  3. The commissioners make their adjustments to the proposed budget and adopt by resolution a final balanced budget no later than December 31.
  4. Within 30 days of adoption, the final budget is available to the public.
